Why does art go hungry?

In the story of the ants
and the grasshopper
we tell our children
to lear from the ants,
to fall in line, to follow,
to pick a useful trade.

We warn the not to be
like the grasshopper
who sings and plays the fiddle
all summer.

We teach them
gathering wealth is hard work
and making music is not.

And then we wonder
why does art die of hunger?
